IP Tools by grep.tools is a collection of focused tools for people who want to understand the address their internet connection uses. It is free to use and does not require an account.
What you can do here
- Check the public IP observed for your current request.
- Check IPv4 and check IPv6 without confusing one address family with the other.
- Look up an address and distinguish public, private, and special-purpose ranges.
- Explore approximate IP location with the limits of that estimate made clear.
- Read practical guides to IP addresses, IPv4 and IPv6, and public and private networks.
Useful results, honest limits
The server uses trusted Cloudflare connection information for automatic detection in production. Missing values are shown as unavailable. A query may not reveal an ISP or a city, and an approximate location should never be treated as someone's exact physical address.
A single request normally uses one IP version. A successful IPv6 request is evidence of that connection; an IPv4 request alone does not prove IPv6 is unsupported. Dedicated family tests require correctly configured network endpoints.
A small footprint
The site uses server-rendered pages, a small amount of client-side JavaScript, and no required account or application database. Personal connection responses are kept out of shared caches. Read the privacy policy for details about infrastructure and explicit lookup requests.
